THE GUITARS OF JOHNNY RAMONE
"POSE-RITES"
So you want a Guitar like Johnny Ramone's, huh? Well, the particular model that Johnny Ramone played is so rare, you will probably never find one. When he said "I wanted to play a guitar no one else was playing, something I could be identified with" he sure nailed it. Even if you do find one, it will cost you a pretty penny, and then, if you are crazy enough to drill holes in it and modify it to sound like the real thing, you would be the laughing stock of any vintage guitar collector. Finally, you would probably still not have a guitar that is "playable." To quote the man himself, "Mosrites are not made of wood, they are made of really good cardboard." Instead you can put together a good copy that will sound exactly the same for a couple hundred bucks.

This axe was made from a Univox copy by yours truly in1988-89. Bit by bit I changed parts, beginning with the pickup, tuners, and eventually the exact knobs. I never got to the piece of duct tape... If you want a Johnny Ramone guitar, doing this is your best bet.

Exact copies of Johnny's white guitar, including all modifications were made in Japan around 1995. Johnny even played one as a backup near the very end of the Ramones. Mosrite of Japan is not allowed to export their guitars, so you will have to go there if you want one. They are not even 'real' Mosrites anyway. . .
