The good reissues are made by a company called "Fillmore" but the entry level models say "Mosrite of Classics" which is totally stupid. The more expensive ones have the correct logos, but I think now they are getting problems from the Ventures for using their logo.

Hey this is cool. Does anyone have one of the Mosrite reissues from Japan? Are they any good? Are they legitimate?

I heard that there are at least 3 different companies making Mosrite 'reissues' - is this true? I doubt any of them have permission from Mosrite. Who owns the Mosrite name anyway?

I heard some of the Japanese Mosrites are made by Schecter (sp?) Is this true? How did you guys find this site? Someone sent me a link but it doesn't come up in the search engines. By the way I play a '65 Ventures and also have a later Celebrity model.

There is a small company in Australia called Tym's Guitars that is supposedly making true Mosrites. I have been in contact with him via e-mail and his product seems to be very true to the originals, but what can I say? NO ONE!! not even the Japanese, can make a MOSRITE!! That was only accomplished by Semie Moseley and he is gone since 1992. I met him several times over the years and I am the original owner of a 1965 Mosrite of California ventures model that Semie completely restored for me between 1988 and 1991, while he was still at the Jonas Ridge,NC location. I have no idea if Semie's wife Lorretta or his children has authorized any productions or has sold the Mosrite name and rights to anybody so if your'e going to buy a Mosrite knock off, remember "Buyer Beware"

tym's guitars does not make mosrites but copies (custom made mosrite guitars(wosrite)) and would never pass off one of his guitars as an original mosrite. He instead makes great handmade aussie guitars and is a passionate mosrite lover. His website is http://www.tymguitars.com.au

Check out
http://www.fillmore-japan.com/usamk1guitar.html
for the fillmore based mosrite copies. Not sure if they own the name but they look pretty damn good.

If you want to see more mosrites go to www.vintageguitargallery.com

I just bought a Fullerton (Aria) Surfrocker for under $200.00. It is an almost exact replica of a Mosrite Ventures, except that the neck and headstock are always painted body-color. I have re-decaled mine with Mosrite and Ventures insignia, and installed Mosrite reissue M-knobs, and I defy you to tell the difference from 8 feet. I also took off the chintzy whammy bar (Strat type) and put a new
B-5 on it.
These guitars are on closeout right now and will be getting rarer. Most are out of stock already. I have seen Metalflake red, Metalflake blue and a really nice sunburst. They also fit exactly into a Mosrite case.

I understand that the Fillmore Mosrites are not the closest copy of the original Mosrites of California. There is only 2 companies in Japan that make the Mosrites. I cannot remember the name of the other, but through all my research, it is the company that is right on. The web site is I beleive call www.gakki.com.
